The Robot Band from Outer space

While looking for ways to integrate technology into the music classroom I just happened upon this youtube video that was pretty cool and thought you all might get a kick out of.

Here is the info given about the video:

They're arrived, the robot band from outerspace. This straight laced electro rhythm group are here to aid kids create music and become familiar with the pentatonic scale. There are 5 robots in total, each member equates to a note in the scale. Children can work individually or in groups. To help the learning process and encourage ineteractivity, each robot hasa move relative to the sound they create. When the sequence is played back they dance. The kids in he class can join in too. This feature introduces a new activity whereby the kids can dance out the composition, which can be plotted in real time; Shulwerk was designed to be delievered via an interactive white board. As a result it is best viewed on a larger monitor.

The whole application is based on a philosophy developed by a German composer called Carl Orff. His technique was coined Schulwerk and its influence can be seen in curriculums all over the world. The use of improvisation and cooperation is used to generate an enthusiasm for music. Once children have made their own beats, a desire to develop musical skills may arise, encouraging them to continue learning about music in a more formal fashion.

Enjoy!

Kim,
That Robot Band from outer space is crazy! Very cool! I'm sure the kids would get a kick out of it. They would probably enjoy messing with it so much that they would not even realize they are learning! Thanks for sharing!
